Where do you draw inspiration for your illustrations?
I draw anything and everything from the world around me, but my favourite things to draw are definitely animals! I love all the different shapes and sizes animals come in, and their different quirks and characters are a strong influence on my work.
What made you want to set up on your own and launch your own company?
I love a challenge! When I graduated from Kingston in 2012 I didn’t want to stop drawing, and I first chose greetings cards as a way to keep my friends and family updated with my latest work. Then I started to recognise greeting card design as a work of art in itself, and I was hooked! I love the personal sentimental link of greetings cards, and I think this is becoming ever more important in today’s digital world. I aim to create cards which encourage people to keep buying and sending cards & handwritten messages to their loved ones.
We know you sell at different markets as well as online, which are your favourites and why?
I love selling at markets and craft fairs, it gives me a great opportunity to meet my customers face to face and find out which designs are working and which aren’t, as well as finding out more about the types of people who are attracted to my designs. I especially love Stour Space market in Hackney Wick, there’s always a wonderful variety of quality designer makers ( and a really good cafe!).
Why is it important to you that all of your cards are printed on recycled paper?
Quality card stock is really important to me and the technology has progressed so much that I am able to maintain my high standards of card stock with 100% recycled card. It’s important for me as a responsible stationery retailer to try to reduce my carbon footprint and encourage others to do the same.
